Help Families Prepare For Natural Disasters

Get a kit – Make a plan – Be informed. These three steps can help keep you safer in a natural disaster. Disasters can happen any time and any place and can often strike very quickly and without warning. The key to staying healthier and safer is being prepared and knowing what to do before, during and after emergencies and natural disasters happen. September is National Preparedness Month and to ensure all the appropriate precautions are taken this season, the American Red Cross is providing tools and resources to help prepare you and your family.

YOUR LISTENERS WILL LEARN:
• Tools and resources to help prepare for disasters
• Information on how to build a disaster preparedness kit
     o People should create or purchase and emergency preparedness kit with enough supplies for a family to last three days. Include things like: water, non-perishable food, flashlight, radio, first aid kit, a multi-purpose tool, important medications and copies of personal documents. You may also include household liquid bleach for cleaning and disinfecting and emergency water sanitation.

• Steps to help stay healthy and safer when returning home
